Pastel on archival paper framed under Museum Glass-Non-Reflective. This is a painting from my imagination and is meant to convey a sense of tranquility. Though red is not normally associated with tranquility, I was able to achieve it with subtle gradations and muted greens.

Vicki Lueb

Working primarily in pastel, Vicki Lueb is best known for her paintings of the marshes and rivers of the Gulf Coast region.  “This (subject) resonates with me more than any other.  The wetlands are our heritage but, unfortunately, they are disappearing at an alarming rate.  In my paintings, I hope to capture some of the beauty, serenity, and glory of these wild places.  And wetlands make great subject matter because, depending upon the weather conditions and time of day, the same area can appear peaceful and serene one minute and mysterious, or even ominous, the next.  It is endlessly fascinating.”

Having no formal education in art, Vicki does not refer to herself as “self-taught”.  Rather, she considers her education in art to be self-directed. Like any dedicated student of the arts, she studies composition, color theory, etc., via myriad resources that are available to today’s artists.   She has attended numerous workshops with nationally known artists.

After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Computer Science, Lueb lived and worked in New Orleans for 20+ years before returning to Mississippi in 2005. She has studied with Stephanie Birdsall, Lyn Asselta, Alan Flatmann and others.

Vicki is a member of the Pastel Society of Mississippi and is co-founder of the South Mississippi Pastel Society.  She also a Signature Member of the Degas Pastel Society, a member of the Southeastern Pastel Society.
