This began as sketch that from calm water that inspired me. I took the sketch and it took on a life of its own as I used the beeswax and resin technique of encaustic. I feel the encaustic medium translated my feelings of that day so successfully.


Ila Hallmark

Ilayali Alvarez-Hallmark was born and raised in Mexico. She moved to the USA in 1966. In 1988, after raising two children and putting them through college, she returned to school to pursue a degree in Fine Arts. She graduated in 1999 with a degree from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Since graduation she has had various solo exhibits and has participated in several group exhibits. During this time, she was also an assistant for Melchor Peredo, a Mexican fresco muralist at Southern Arkansas University. The artist designed an executed a mural project at the Centro Hispano in Little Rock, AR. 

 

Ila moved to Jackson, MS in January of 2007 where she was accepted as a member of the Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi.  Currently she maintains a working studio in Jackson, MS. She has continued to share her craft as a drawing and painting instructor in Ridgeland, MS.
